Spanish drummer and percussionist, Ramon Lopez settled in Paris in January 1985 and gradually integrated into the French experimental scene. At the same time, he became passionate about Indian music. He taught with Patrick Moutal at the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique in Paris (1994-2001). Between 1997 and 2000 he was the drummer of the National Jazz Orchestra, directed by Didier Levallet. He has collaborated on recordings or concerts with Beñat Achiary, Rashied Ali, Majid Bekkas, Anthony Coleman, Andrew Cyrille, Sophia Domancich, Hamid Drake, Agustí Fernández, Sonny Fortune, Barry Guy, Charles Gayle, Teppo Hauta, Joe Morris, Ivo Perelman, Enrico Rava, Paul Rogers, Louis Sclavis, Alain Silva, Archie Shepp, John Surman, Joachim Kuhn, Daunik Lazro, Jeanne Lee, Gérard Lesne, Thierry Madiot, Claude Tchamitchian, Mal Waldron, Christine Wodrascka and other protagonists of the avant-garde jazz, performing in concerts and festivals throughout the world.
He has recorded over one hundred albums and is currently one of the most respected European artists in the field of contemporary jazz and improvised music. Ramon Lopez was named “Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters” by the French Government in 2008.
Pianist/Composer/Educator Angelica Sanchez moved to New York from Arizona in 1994. Since moving to the East Coast Sanchez has played with such players as: Wadada Leo Smith, Paul Motian, Richard Davis, Chad Taylor, Chris Lightcap, Rob Mazurek, Vincent Chancey, Susie Ibarra, Tim Berne, Mario Pavone, Mark Dresser, Ben Monder and many more. Sanchez leads many groups including her own quintet featuring Marc Ducret, Tony Malaby, Drew Gress, and Tom Rainey.
