About: The Western New York Genealogical Society will host its annual elections and November program, "Notes from Armageddon: Postcards, Propaganda, and the First World War" with expert Dr. Andrew Nicholls, this Saturday at the Buffalo History Museum. Using period examples, his presentation will examine propaganda through the medium of postcards, before and during the First World War. Dr. Nicholls was born and raised in Midland, Ontario. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Victoria College, University of Toronto, and his Masters and Ph.D. from the University of Guelph. Dr. Nicholls has taught at SUNY Buffalo State since 1996 where he is now Professor of History and Chair of the Department of History and Social Studies Education. His primary teaching and research interests center on Early Modern British History, Canadian History, and the History of the First World War. He is the author of A Fleeting Empire: Early Stuart Britain and the Merchant Adventurers to Canada; The Jacobean Union: A Reconsideration of British Civil Policies under the Early Stuarts; co-author of After the Fire: Ste. Marie - Among the Hurons since 1649, and has published numerous articles and reviews in the United States, Canada and Great Britain.
